Group Insurance
Life Insurance: Term Insurance that renews each year. Typically, the amount of coverage is either a flat amount (eg. $50,000) or a percentage of your annual salary (eg 2 times annual salary).
Accidental Death & Disablement: Percentage of the Life Insurance amount (25% to 200%) is paid upon an accidental death or a disablement (eg, loss of sight, hearing, usage of limbs).
Critical Illness: If you are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness (eg, cancer, heart attack, stroke), you are able to submit a claim 30, 60, or 90 days after diagnosis, depending on the type of illness. Upon approval, you would receive a predetermined lump sum payment, tax free.
Short Term and/or Long Term Disability: If you are severely ill or injured and you are unable to perform the main duties of your job/profession, for a number of days (short term) or a number of months (long term), then you will receive a weekly short term disability payment, or a monthly long term disability payment until you have been deemed by a medical professional to be physically or psychological fit to return to work. The length of time that the policy will pay a benefit is determined by the type of plan you select. NOTE: Employers can apply for an Employment Insurance premium reduction if a Short Term Disability plan that is comparable to E.I., is put into place.
Extended Health Care: Prescription drugs, prescribed medical equipment, massage therapy, registered counselor, prescribed orthotics, travel insurance, prescription eyewear – these are the types of health expenses that can be covered in part, or fully, depending on the type of plan you want. Annual and lifetime maximums are typical in place for all services.
Dental Care: Basic, major, and/or orthodontic dental work can be covered in part or in full, depending upon the type of plan you want. Examples of basic work include cleanings, fillings, xrays, and extractions. Examples of major work include crowns, dentures, and bridges. Basic and major work tend to have annual maximums, while orthodontic work tends to have a lifetime maximum.
